Work is set to begin on the first phase of Huntsville’s Pedestrian Access & Redevelopment Corridor (PARC) project.
Channel Improvements Along Pinhook Creek
The City has awarded a contract to Lambert Contracting LLC for improvements to Pinhook Creek. The work will focus on approximately 3,200 linear feet of the channel, stretching from Holmes Avenue to Memorial Parkway.
The project includes channel widening, stream restoration features, and significant flood mitigation efforts. Crews will move about 100,000 cubic yards of soil and install roughly 90,000 square feet of retaining walls as part of the upgrades.
Flood Mitigation and Greenway Enhancements
Decorative retaining walls will be constructed along the east side of the creek. On the west side, the bank will be reshaped to create a low-flow channel designed to support aquatic habitats.
The restoration plan includes seawalls and rock slabs that will form pools for continuous water flow. This section will eventually connect to the project’s lower greenway network, enhancing pedestrian access and outdoor space.
Future Pedestrian Bridges
City leaders also approved an engineering design services agreement with GTEC LLC. The contract covers structural foundation design for three precast pedestrian bridges planned across Pinhook Creek.
The bridges are scheduled for construction during the fourth and final phase of the PARC project, further improving connectivity within the redevelopment corridor.
