About Mars Music Hall
Mars Music Hall is located inside the Von Braun Center and opened in early 2020. The venue’s current name reflects Huntsville’s long-standing ties to space exploration and aerospace innovation. Advocates for the change believe renaming the hall would create a lasting tribute to one of the city’s most beloved performers.
Remembering Microwave Dave
Dave Gallaher was born in Chicago and raised in Texas before eventually making Huntsville his home. A U.S. Air Force veteran and trained musician who studied at Berklee College of Music, he built a career rooted in the blues. After moving to Huntsville in the 1980s, he became known as “Microwave Dave,” a nickname tied to his local blues radio show.
For decades, he performed throughout the community and became a cornerstone of Huntsville’s music culture. Supporters say renaming the venue would ensure his contributions continue to resonate for generations to come.
