Fans launch petition to rename Mars Music Hall in honor of Microwave Dave

A new public petition is calling for Mars Music Hall in Huntsville to be renamed in honor of the late blues legend Dave “Microwave Dave” Gallaher.

Petition Seeks to Honor a Local Legend

Following Gallaher’s passing, fans launched a petition to rename Mars Music Hall after him. Supporters say the change would preserve his legacy and recognize his impact on Huntsville’s music scene. As of February 13, the petition had reached 674 signatures toward a 750-signature goal, reflecting strong community support.

About Mars Music Hall

Mars Music Hall is located inside the Von Braun Center and opened in early 2020. The venue’s current name reflects Huntsville’s long-standing ties to space exploration and aerospace innovation. Advocates for the change believe renaming the hall would create a lasting tribute to one of the city’s most beloved performers.

Remembering Microwave Dave

Dave Gallaher was born in Chicago and raised in Texas before eventually making Huntsville his home. A U.S. Air Force veteran and trained musician who studied at Berklee College of Music, he built a career rooted in the blues. After moving to Huntsville in the 1980s, he became known as “Microwave Dave,” a nickname tied to his local blues radio show.

For decades, he performed throughout the community and became a cornerstone of Huntsville’s music culture. Supporters say renaming the venue would ensure his contributions continue to resonate for generations to come.
