North Alabama diagnostic laboratory Eurofins Diatherix plans to permanently close its facility and lay off 55 workers starting this fall.

According to a notice filed with the Alabama Department of Workforce, Huntsville-based Eurofins Diatherix submitted its WARN filing on Aug. 31.
The layoffs are scheduled to begin Oct. 31 and will affect 55 employees. Federal law requires large employers to provide public notice ahead of mass job cuts or facility shutdowns.
Company history in Cummings Research Park
Located at the HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology in Cummings Research Park, the diagnostic testing lab provides clinical services to hospitals and physicians.
Founded as Diatherix Laboratories in 2008, the facility was acquired by French laboratory giant Eurofins Scientific in 2015 for $50 million. Over its 18-year history, the lab has served more than 68,000 clients.
Impact on Alabama labor market
Company spokespeople did not immediately comment on the reasons behind the facility closure.
The planned cuts contribute to a growing statewide total, bringing the number of Alabama workers affected by mass layoffs and facility closures to nearly 2,300 in 2026.
