Residents voice concerns over Crestwood Medical acquisition

Residents in North Alabama voiced concerns about health care transparency and equity at a recent community meeting.

Community Discusses Huntsville Hospital and Crestwood Medical Acquisition

The North Alabama Area Labor Council and United Women of Color hosted a forum Friday night to address health care issues across the Tennessee Valley. Attendees raised concerns about staffing shortages, care inequities, and the recent acquisition of Crestwood Medical by Huntsville Hospital.

Many expressed worry that the purchase could give Huntsville Hospital outsized control over regional health care options.

Voices for Equity

Angela Curry, Executive Director of United Women of Color, said her organization wants to amplify the concerns of those most affected by disparities, including women and people of color.

“We’re going to share this information with city and county leaders and Huntsville Hospital,” Curry said. “We want to ensure residents’ voices are heard.”

Hospital Response

Huntsville Hospital said it was not notified of the meeting until it was fully planned and promoted. The hospital noted that under the purchase agreement, representatives cannot speak publicly about the pending acquisition.

The hospital will meet with a representative from the North Alabama Area Labor Council on Monday to address the concerns raised.
