Huntsville to roll out new technology to speed up some 911 responses
Live-911 Technology Coming to Huntsville
The City of Huntsville is preparing to introduce new technology designed to help first responders reach certain 911 calls faster. Officials say the Huntsville Police Department will soon begin using Live-911 technology, which allows responders to access emergency call information more quickly.
The system is designed to improve how dispatchers and emergency teams locate callers during urgent situations. As a result, responders can begin coordinating a response sooner when every second matters.
Faster Response With Drone Support
City officials say the North Alabama Multi-Agency Crime Center will monitor incoming 911 calls using the new system. Once a call is detected, the center can send drones to the scene in as little as two minutes.
This approach helps provide immediate aerial information while officers and emergency crews travel to the location. Because of this, responders can better assess the situation before arriving.
Helping When Callers Can’t Speak
City Administrator John Hamilton said the technology will be especially useful in emergencies where callers cannot clearly communicate their location. For example, someone experiencing a medical emergency may lose consciousness before sharing key details with dispatchers.
Additionally, the system could help in situations where someone is in danger and cannot safely speak on the phone. Officials say the city plans to install the software and complete training within the next 30 to 60 days.
