Huntsville breaks into Top 100 U.S. Cities by Population, new census data shows

Huntsville continues rapid population growth and has reached a new national milestone, according to online reports.

Huntsville Enters Top 100 U.S. Cities

New population estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau place Huntsville among the 100 largest cities in the United States. As of July 1, 2025, the city reached an estimated 233,627 residents.

That total reflects an increase of more than 3,200 people since 2024. As a result, Huntsville moved ahead of Norfolk and earned the No. 100 spot nationwide.

Huntsville’s growth has continued for decades. However, the latest data shows its pace remains strong compared to many mid-sized U.S. cities.

Growth Keeps Huntsville in Fast-Rising Company

Huntsville now shares a similar population range with cities such as McKinney, Richmond, and Boise. In addition, it continues to strengthen its role as a major economic hub in Alabama.

Several factors drive this growth. For example, the city benefits from strong job opportunities, aerospace expansion, and ongoing residential development. Moreover, new housing and commercial projects continue to attract residents.

What Comes Next for Population Rankings

At its current pace, Huntsville will likely hold its position near the bottom of the top 100 cities over the next year. Still, trends suggest movement is possible in the coming years.

If growth continues, Huntsville could pass cities like Boise and Scottsdale by 2027. In that case, the city would climb even higher in national rankings and further expand its influence in the Southeast.
