$1 billion in school upgrades continues as Huntsville starts on new campus

Huntsville City Schools is continuing its long-term investment in campus improvements with the start of another major construction project, according to online reports.

$1 Billion School Upgrade Effort Continues in Huntsville

Huntsville City Schools and city leaders recently broke ground on a new middle school campus that will replace Huntsville Junior High School.

The new campus, called Huntsville Middle School, will be built across from the current school at 817 Adams Street SE. Officials expect the school to open in August 2028.

The project is part of the district’s broader 10-year capital improvement strategy focused on modernizing aging facilities and supporting Huntsville’s growing student population.

New Campus Will Serve Up to 750 Students

The future school will include approximately 125,000 square feet of space and will accommodate up to 750 students in grades 6 through 8.

District leaders said the design includes 10 classrooms per grade level, elective learning spaces, and expanded collaborative areas intended to support modern teaching methods.

Students also participated in the groundbreaking event by helping unveil the school’s design plans.

Superintendent Clarence Sutton said the project reflects continued investment in educational spaces designed to promote safety, innovation, and student success.

City Leaders Highlight Ongoing Education Investments

During the ceremony, Tommy Battle said Huntsville has invested nearly $1 billion into school facility upgrades over the past decade.

City and district leaders say those investments are helping prepare local schools for long-term growth as Huntsville continues expanding.

The new middle school represents one of several major projects included in the district’s ongoing facilities improvement plan.
