A longtime Newk’s Eatery location in South Huntsville has closed after more than a decade in the community.
Newk’s on Whitesburg has closed
The Newk’s Eatery location at 4851 Whitesburg Drive shut down Sunday, Sept. 30, according to information shared by managers at the restaurant’s University Drive location.
The closure affects the restaurant inside the Publix-anchored shopping center at Piedmont Point. The location had served the South Huntsville area for many years.
According to online reports, the Whitesburg restaurant had operated at the site since at least 2010.
A longtime spot for South Huntsville diners
Newk’s built its name around a fast-casual menu featuring sandwiches, salads, soups, pizzas and other prepared-to-order dishes.
Over the years, the Whitesburg location became part of the dining options for residents in South Huntsville. Its menu included favorites such as the
Caesar salad, tomato soup, sandwiches and other casual meals.
The restaurant also offered dine-in and takeout service for customers in the area.
What’s next for Huntsville’s Newk’s locations?
The closure does not mean Newk’s is leaving Huntsville entirely. The restaurant’s University Drive location remains in operation.
For South Huntsville residents, however, the Whitesburg closure marks the end of a familiar neighborhood dining spot that had been part of the area for more than 15 years.
