The University of Alabama in Huntsville is partnering with Microsoft to expand innovation efforts in North Alabama.
Microsoft Joins UAH’s I2C
Microsoft has joined the University of Alabama in Huntsville Invention to Innovation Center (I2C) as a Corporate Innovation Partner. University leaders say the collaboration strengthens UAH’s role as a hub for federal enterprise innovation.
Rigved Joshi, UAH’s assistant vice president for innovation and entrepreneurship and I2C director, said the partnership will help accelerate mission readiness, expand workforce development, and drive economic growth across North Alabama.
Focus on Cloud, AI and Federal Enterprise
Through the partnership, Microsoft will station a presence at UAH’s I2C. The company will bring enterprise-level cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and hybrid-edge capabilities designed for federal agencies.
University officials say the collaboration will support efforts to modernize legacy systems, enhance secure multi-cloud operations, and implement responsible AI for mission-critical applications. Areas of focus include cloud modernization and advanced computing for defense and space-related work.
Strengthening North Alabama’s Innovation Ecosystem
UAH leaders say Microsoft will benefit from the university’s research base, student talent pipeline, and proximity to Redstone Arsenal and the broader Department of Defense ecosystem. In turn, the partnership aims to speed up prototype-to-deployment workflows and deliver secure cloud and edge solutions for defense, aerospace, and space missions.
