McFarland Park’s popular campgrounds and fishing pier are officially back open following months of renovations, giving campers and anglers a refreshed outdoor destination just west of Huntsville.
Campgrounds welcome visitors again
The campgrounds reopened on Sept. 5 after closing in late 2025 for extensive improvements. City officials are now accepting reservations, with campsites starting at about $35 per night. Campers can also add Wi-Fi access for an additional nightly fee.
Located along the Tennessee River in Florence, McFarland Park has long been a favorite destination for fishing, boating, and RV camping.
What’s new at the park?
The renovation project added several upgrades designed to improve the camping experience. Visitors will find new 30- and 50-amp electrical hookups, upgraded water and sewer connections, wider concrete camping pads, newly paved access roads, new picnic tables, and a community fire pit.
The fishing pier has also reopened alongside the campground, allowing visitors to enjoy one of the area’s most popular fishing spots.
A $437,000 investment in outdoor recreation
The improvements were funded through a more than $437,000 grant from the Land and Water Conservation Fund. The investment supports Florence’s efforts to enhance public outdoor spaces and attract more visitors to the Tennessee River waterfront.
Reservations for the newly upgraded campground are now available through the City of Florence’s campground booking system.
