The Alabama School of Cyber Technology and Engineering (ASCTE) has opened a new $12.5 million facility in Huntsville and announced plans for a first-of-its-kind research institute.
New $12.5M Sentinel Center opens in Huntsville
ASCTE celebrated the opening of the Sentinel Center, a 1,100-seat facility designed to support athletics, student programs, and collaborative learning. Brasfield & Gorrie constructed the building as part of the school’s continued expansion.
Local and state leaders attended the ribbon cutting, highlighting the school’s role in developing a skilled technology workforce. Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle said the investment strengthens the region’s long-term competitiveness.
$3M investment to launch research institute
In addition, the ASCTE Foundation announced a $3 million donation from philanthropist Hank Isenberg. The funding will establish the Isenberg Institute, a research hub focused on advanced fields such as artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and big data.
As a result, ASCTE will expand its role beyond secondary education into applied research and workforce development.
Expansion supports growth and student access
The project also includes a new 64-bed residence hall for female students, which will increase access to the school’s programs. Construction on the broader expansion is expected to be completed by January 2027.
Meanwhile, school leaders say rising application numbers reflect growing demand for ASCTE’s specialized curriculum and training opportunities.
