Huntsville-based HAPPI Health has been awarded a $650,000 federal grant that will support the expansion of health care services in the community.
The funding comes through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) New Access Point program and will help the organization reach more patients across the Tennessee Valley.
New clinic planned for Huntsville
According to HAPPI Health leaders, the grant will help fund a new clinic in the 35805 area of Huntsville as well as a school-based health clinic.
The expansion is designed to address ongoing gaps in access to care and allow the organization to serve additional patients regardless of their insurance status or ability to pay.
HAPPI Health currently serves more than 13,000 families throughout the Tennessee Valley and recently expanded into Morgan County. The organization expects to operate nine facilities by the end of the year.
Federal officials tour Huntsville facility
The announcement came during a visit to HAPPI Health’s Sparkman Drive facility by HRSA Administrator Tom Engels and U.S. Representative Dale Strong.
Federal officials highlighted the organization’s use of technology, patient-centered approach and commitment to providing care for underserved populations.
HAPPI Health leaders said the grant will allow the nonprofit to extend services to more residents while continuing its mission of providing accessible, high-quality health care.
Part of nationwide health care investment
The award is part of a larger federal initiative announced by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Through HRSA, more than $102 million in New Access Point grants were distributed to health centers across the country to expand access to primary care services.
Local leaders say the investment will strengthen health care access in Huntsville and support future growth as demand for services continues to increase.
