According to published reports, two of Huntsville’s best-known architecture and design firms have officially merged after working together on the new Madison County Courthouse project.
Huntsville Design Firms Announce Merger
Matheny Goldmon and Goodwyn Mills Cawood (GMC) announced the merger this week. The firms began collaborating nearly two years ago while pursuing the Madison County Courthouse design project.
Their partnership proved successful, and the Madison County Commission later selected the combined team to design the new courthouse.
Leaders from both firms said the project demonstrated how well their teams worked together. As a result, they decided to make the partnership permanent.
Firms Shaped Many Huntsville Landmarks
Together, the two firms have designed several of Huntsville’s most recognizable buildings.
Matheny Goldmon designed projects such as the Orion Amphitheater, Mars Music Hall at the Von Braun Center, the Eloise McDonald Propst Guest Center at the Huntsville Botanical Garden, and The Garage at Clinton Row.
Meanwhile, GMC designed Huntsville City Hall and has worked on numerous major projects across the Southeast. Its portfolio also includes the new Alabama State House, Auburn University’s STEM and Agricultural Complex, Mobile Arena, and Gulf Shores High School.
The combined experience gives the merged company an even broader range of architecture, engineering, and planning expertise.
Merger Expands Services Across the Region
Matheny Goldmon, founded in 2006, operates offices in Huntsville and Nashville. The firm employs about 30 professionals and provides architectural and interior design services for government, commercial, educational, industrial, civic, and retail projects.
GMC employs more than 700 people across the Southeast. In addition to architecture and interior design, the firm offers civil engineering, transportation engineering, environmental services, landscape architecture, mechanical and electrical engineering, planning, and disaster recovery.
Company leaders said the merger will allow them to provide clients with additional resources while maintaining the collaborative approach that helped secure the Madison County Courthouse project.
As Huntsville continues to grow, the combined firm is expected to play an important role in designing future public facilities, commercial developments, and community landmarks throughout North Alabama and the Southeast.
