Cumulus reshuffles South Carolina stations ahead of sale

According to published reports, Cumulus Media has reorganized several radio station formats in the Florence area as it prepares to sell one of its stations to Radio Training Network.

Sports Programming Moves to 100.1 FM

Sports programming previously heard on 100.5 WWFN-FM has moved to 100.1 WQPD, where it now airs as “100.1 The Game.”

The move restores sports programming to the 100.1 frequency, which previously carried a sports format from 2013 through 2021 under the name “100.1 The Fan.”

The change also allows Cumulus to continue simulcasting “107.5 The Game” WNKT from Columbia in the Florence market.
Gospel Programming Returns to 540 AM

The format changes also affect another local station.

Before the switch, 100.1 WQPD simulcast Gospel station “Glory 98.5” WBZF. With sports returning to 100.1 FM, Cumulus moved the Gospel simulcast back to 540 WYNN in Florence.

As a result, 540 WYNN discontinued its “540 The Hound” Classic Country format. The move essentially restores the station lineup that existed before changes made last October.

Station Sale Continues

The programming changes come as Cumulus moves forward with the sale of 100.5 WWFN-FM, along with WWFF in Huntsville and W250BC in Atlanta, to Radio Training Network.

Published reports state that Cumulus announced the $2.45 million agreement in May.

Once the sale closes, WWFN-FM is expected to join Radio Training Network’s “His Radio” Christian adult contemporary network, marking another change for listeners in the Florence market.
