Huntsville City Schools has selected a site for a future campus in the fast-growing Hampton Cove area, according to online reports.
New School Planned for Growing Hampton Cove Community
School leaders announced plans for a new campus to support continued growth in the southern portion of Huntsville. The future school will sit on 82 acres north of the intersection of Highway 431 and Old Big Cove Road near the base of Monte Sano Mountain.
Huntsville City Schools purchased the property for $3.68 million as part of its long-term planning efforts. Officials said the campus will serve families in one of the city’s fastest-growing residential areas.
Long-Term Growth Drives School Expansion
According to district leaders, the future school will operate as either an elementary or middle school based on needs identified in the district’s 10-year capital plan.
Superintendent Dr. Clarence Sutton said the purchase reflects efforts to prepare for continued enrollment growth across the community. In addition, school leaders want to ensure future students have access to facilities that match population trends in Hampton Cove and surrounding neighborhoods.
The district said planning now allows the system to stay ahead of demand instead of responding after schools reach capacity.
What Families Can Expect Next
Current plans call for a campus measuring approximately 120,000 square feet. In addition, the school is expected to serve up to 1,000 students once complete.
Construction timelines remain long-term, and the district expects the school to open for the 2033 school year. However, securing land now gives school leaders flexibility as development continues in the area.
