Huntsville Animal Services will once again host its “Boom Proof Your Pet” event on June 14 to help families prepare pets for fireworks season, according to online reports.
Free pet safety event returns to John Hunt Park
Huntsville Animal Services (HAS) will hold the event on Sunday, June 14 from 2–6 p.m. at the Jaycee Building in John Hunt Park, located at 2180 Airport Rd.
In addition, the event is free for Huntsville and Madison County pet owners, but registration is required. Officials say the program focuses on preventing pets from running away during fireworks season.
HAS Director John Fischer said the goal is to reduce the number of lost and frightened animals that arrive at shelters each year. He emphasized early preparation as the key to keeping pets safe at home.
Services include microchips, vaccines, and supplies
The event will offer several pet services and resources. These include microchipping, DAPP and rabies vaccines, collars, leashes, ID tags, and pet food.
In addition, spay and neuter vouchers will be available for City of Huntsville residents. However, microchipping is required before receiving other services or supplies.
All services and giveaways are sponsored by the Huntsville Animal Services Foundation. Local veterinarians will assist with onsite vaccinations during the event.
Goal is to reduce lost pets during fireworks season
Officials say fireworks season leads to a yearly spike in lost and frightened pets. As a result, the program focuses on prevention through education and identification tools.
Furthermore, HAS hopes to expand its impact this year. Last year, the event assisted about 200 animals, and organizers aim to increase that number.
Finally, residents must register in advance to attend. More information about HAS programs and services is available through Huntsville Animal Services.
