$82M investment brings new ERs to Huntsville

According to published reports, the Huntsville Hospital Health System has received approval to build two new free-standing emergency departments in the Huntsville area.

Two New Emergency Facilities Planned

The Health Care Authority of the City of Huntsville, which oversees Huntsville Hospital Health System, received certificates of need from the State Health Planning and Development Agency for the projects.

Each facility is expected to cost about $41 million, including the first year of operating expenses.

The emergency departments will be located in north Huntsville and Hampton Cove. Hospital officials say the expansion will help meet the healthcare needs of a rapidly growing region.

Locations and Services Announced

One emergency department will be built at 10121 Memorial Parkway NW in north Huntsville. The site sits near the planned North Village Town Center development along North Memorial Parkway.
The second location will be in Hampton Cove at 6079 U.S. Highway 431 South, near Bojangles and Hampton Inn & Suites.

Both facilities will offer emergency care for walk-in patients. They will also include diagnostic services such as MRI, CT scans, and laboratory testing.

City officials previously said the north Huntsville location will include an emergency room and imaging center, with additional services potentially added as the area grows.

Construction Expected to Begin Soon

Huntsville Hospital Health System plans to begin construction in September, with both facilities expected to open between late 2027 and early 2028.

Hospital leaders said the projects are part of a larger effort to expand access to emergency care throughout the community.

Huntsville Hospital Health System President and CEO Jeff Samz said the investments will help address current healthcare demands while preparing for continued growth in the Huntsville area.

Officials noted that north Huntsville, in particular, will see one of the largest healthcare investments in the area’s history once construction moves forward.
