Huntsville to become hub for advanced navigation’s GPS-independent technology

Advanced Navigation America is expanding its Huntsville operations with a new Positioning, Navigation and Timing (PNT) Center of Excellence designed to develop and manufacture technology for autonomous systems.

New center will focus on navigation technology

Backed by the company’s $110 million Series C funding round, the center will support research, development and manufacturing across several advanced technology fields. These include fiber optics, microelectromechanical systems, laser sensing, photonics, vision-based systems, artificial intelligence and quantum sensing.

The technology is designed to help autonomous systems determine their position and movement in challenging environments where GPS signals may be unreliable or unavailable. Potential applications include defense, aerospace, maritime operations, mining and heavy industry.

Huntsville expands its advanced manufacturing role

The company selected Huntsville for its concentration of engineers, research institutions and defense-related industries. The area is home to Redstone Arsenal, NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center and Cummings Research Park.

Advanced Navigation America plans to bring engineering, production, calibration and testing capabilities together at the facility. The company says this approach will help it manufacture complex navigation systems more efficiently and respond to customer requirements more quickly.

The expansion is also expected to support growth in the company’s U.S. workforce and strengthen domestic manufacturing capacity.

Investment supports U.S. production and global operations

Advanced Navigation develops technology for autonomous systems operating across land, air, sea and space. According to the company, more than 100,000 of its systems have been deployed worldwide, serving customers in aerospace, defense, resource extraction and other industries.

The Huntsville center will add U.S. manufacturing capacity alongside the company’s operations in Australia and the United Kingdom. Advanced Navigation says the expanded network will strengthen supply-chain resilience and help meet growing demand for high-performance navigation systems.

The company also plans to pursue U.S. mergers and acquisitions to bring additional technologies and expertise into its portfolio.
