Dough Dough Pizza Co. is preparing to bring long-fermented sourdough pizza and creative sandwiches to downtown Huntsville later this year.
A new pizza concept downtown
According to online reports, Mercado Group plans to open Dough Dough Pizza Co. in the former Razzo Pizzeria space at 222 Holmes Ave. N.E.
The group already operates several downtown favorites, including Standard Social Market, Del-Chuco Cocina Y Cantina, and Local Café. Now, the team is turning its attention to pizza with a new concept built around fermented dough.
The restaurant currently targets a mid- to late-September opening.
Sourdough takes center stage
Dough Dough Pizza Co. will serve sourdough pizzas by the slice or whole pie. The team plans to give the dough plenty of time to ferment, creating a crust with a crisp exterior and chewy center.
The menu will include familiar pizza toppings alongside rotating options. That approach gives the kitchen room to experiment while still offering classic favorites.
The concept also introduces “sandoughs,” which swap traditional sliced bread for fresh fermented pizza dough in sandwiches.
More than pizza
The menu will also feature salads, including a Caprese option. In addition, the team plans to explore other dishes that make use of its signature dough.
The upcoming restaurant occupies a space within the former Huntsville Times building footprint. The location has housed several food concepts over the years, most recently Razzo Pizzeria.
With its new sourdough-focused menu, Dough Dough Pizza Co. will add another dining option to downtown Huntsville as the area continues to welcome new restaurants and businesses.
