Huntsville Airport warns of phone scam promising “free” airline tickets

Huntsville International Airport is warning residents about a phone scam targeting people across North Alabama.

How the Scam Works

Airport officials say scammers are spoofing the airport’s main phone number. As a result, calls appear to come directly from Huntsville International Airport. However, officials stress the airport is not making these calls.

The callers falsely claim they are offering free airline tickets. They often create urgency by saying things like “claim your tickets now” or “you’ve won free flights.” Airport representatives say these tactics are meant to pressure people into responding quickly.

What the Airport Will Never Do

Airport spokesperson Talyn Walton said the calls may sound legitimate, but residents should not trust them. The airport will never ask for personal or financial information over the phone.

Additionally, officials say scammers may leave voicemails with a different callback number. This step prevents victims from reaching the airport’s real phone line. Therefore, residents should avoid returning any calls or engaging with the message.

How to Protect Yourself

If you receive one of these calls, hang up immediately and do not interact further. The airport also recommends reporting scam attempts to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

While Huntsville International Airport does run legitimate giveaways, officials say those promotions only appear on the airport’s verified social media accounts—not through phone calls. Airport staff report receiving dozens of inquiries about the scam but say they have not confirmed any victims so far.
