The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) is moving forward with two major campus projects after receiving approval from the University of Alabama System Board of Trustees.
Bevill Center Renovation
The Bevill Center, originally built in 1988, will undergo a $47.6 million renovation to become a modern interdisciplinary research and academic facility. The upgraded center will house the Center for Cybersecurity Research & Education, the Department of Computer Science, the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and the Office of Research and Economic Development.
The project is designed to attract top students, faculty, and researchers while enhancing UAH’s role as a hub for technology and innovation in North Alabama.
First On-Campus Track and Field Complex
UAH will construct its first on-campus track and field complex, expanding Charger Park on the west side of John Wright Drive. The facility will feature an NCAA-compliant 400-meter, eight-lane track along with areas for jumping, vaulting, and throwing events.
The complex will also include a press box, 500-seat bleachers, concession areas, and parking, providing athletes with a modern venue for training and competitions.
Hosting Championships and Campus Growth
The new track and field complex will allow UAH to host Gulf South Conference and NCAA Division II championship events, bringing high-level competitions to campus. University officials say both projects demonstrate UAH’s commitment to enhancing student experiences, athletic opportunities, and research capabilities, strengthening its impact on the Huntsville community.
