Earth and Stone Wood Fired Pizza

Earth and Stone Wood Fired Pizza

If I had to pick a single food to be the number-one crowd-pleaser, I just might pick pizza. Who wasn’t ever excited for pizza days at school, sharing a late-night slice among friends, or just grabbing a takeout pizza after a long day? It’s hard to make pizza bad, but it’s even harder to make it just right. Fortunately, Earth and Stone strives to provide quality options for pizza lovers looking for a great, shareable meal.

Founded in 2013 as a pizza vendor and caterer, Earth and Stone first started with events like the Greene Street Farmer’s Market right here in Huntsville. Founding duo Stan Stinson and Tina Ford visited events, music festivals, and markets, selling pizzas made in their own mobile pizza oven. After building a reputation for their stellar pizzas during these markets, a reporter’s story boosted them into the realm of full-time pizza cooking and even their own location, located inside the Yellowhammer Brewery on Campus No. 805.

Gold Sprint Coffee certainly had a unique aesthetic. It was decorated with sports trophies, taxidermy, and lots of greenery. The shop itself had a large trophy case with sports trophies that dated back several decades, as well as several taxidermied critters (and some skulls and other animal bones). The front of the shop featured the expected tables, as well as a few options for comfortable seating, like benches and couches. There were also a pair of bikes hanging in the front of the shop, reflecting the bike in the company’s logo. The eclectic style seems unusual when you read it, but it really does work together and suit the shop well.  Something that makes Gold Sprint stand out from its competition is the fact that the back of the shop has a small stage that acts as a venue for performers of all types. This isn’t something that I have seen in any of the other shops that I have reviewed thus far.

Where Is Earth and Stone Pizza?

When I first found my way to Earth and Stone, I was confused about its location. Being a total homebody, I wasn’t familiar with Campus No. 805, a fun little locale that is booming with all sorts of eateries, breweries, and event spaces. Founded in the early 2010s, Campus No. 805 pays homage to the site’s previous purpose: educational spaces, first for the campus that would become UAH, then S.R. Butler High School before both campuses were relocated to other areas. Now, it has been reopened for exciting new purposes.

Today, when you navigate to Campus No. 805, you’ll find yourself arriving at a collection of buildings around a parking lot, giving you a ton of options, from the savory to the sweet to the boozy. If you’re not familiar with the campus, check the signs on the door—you’ll find Earth and Stone on one side of Yellowstone Brewing, and from there, you can slip in and enjoy some high-quality pizza.

Our Slices of Choice

So, how about that pizza?

First, keep in mind that the pizzas are fresh—everything we tried was made while we waited at our table, so you can expect fresh ingredients and hot cheese. For those fiends for a good cheese stretch, they’ve got you covered.

Let’s get into the specifics:

Cheesy Bread

First, we decided we just couldn’t wait—we started with a little appetizer, a plate of cheesy bread with their marinara sauce. The only reason these lasted long enough to snap a quick photo is the heat factor—everything we ordered was piping hot and fresh from the oven.

The cheesy bread starts with a pizza dough crust, topped with cheese, and drizzled with garlic-infused oil, all of which are so fresh and full of flavor. Earth and Stone also makes their marinara in-house, so you have fresh, flavorful, heavily seasoned marinara to use to your heart’s content (for me, the more sauce, the better).

The Porkalicious

For those looking for a classic meat lover’s pizza, this is your time to order and enjoy a hearty, meaty slice of pizza. While I, admittedly, felt a little self-conscious standing at the counter and ordering something called a “porkalicious,” this pizza delivers—vegetarians beware of this one (maybe check out The Greene Street instead for a veggie slice)!

This particular pizza features all your classic meaty pizza toppings: pepperoni, bacon, and sausage. The team here also does not skimp on the meat—you can expect a little pork in every bite of this pie. This one was perhaps the richest, and certainly the most filling of our choices, but it was never too heavy to be too much. Instead, it was warm, filling, and full of all the spices and flavors we expect from a meat-lover-type pizza.

This was the first pizza brought out to us for the meal, so I want to highlight the crust here. While I’m not a picky pizza eater (there are few ways to make a pizza crust that I won’t like), I’m a big fan of a thin, crunchy crust. If you are as well, you’ll be pleased with the selection here at Earth and Stone. I love the texture these bring, which is mellowed by marinara sauce and melty cheese.

Buffalo Chicken

Last, but certainly not least, we have Earth and Stone’s buffalo chicken pizza. Their take on the classic pie features the usual standards (buffalo chicken, white sauce, red onions, and a drizzle of ranch), but this pizza excels in the execution. All those fresh ingredients pay off with a pizza that simply does buffalo chicken right.

For those looking for a little more kick in their pizza (or perhaps those avoiding some of the processed meats like pepperoni), check out the buffalo chicken pizza here. The buffalo sauce absolutely pops off the pizza, leaving a little savory heat without the burn, and the sliced red onion elevates that kick to a new level. The white sauce keeps those more exciting flavors to a mellow combination that had our tastebuds singing, and the crunchy thin crust gave the combination a fantastic texture that brought it to the top of our buffalo pizza rankings.

Visiting Earth and Stone Wood-Fired Pizza

Residents or visitors of Huntsville may already be aware that they are spoiled by choice in Rocket City. However, after a slice (okay, maybe more like three), I’ll personally be moving Earth and Stone much higher in my list of choices when choosing an eatery when I’m craving a slice (or two, or three). Even better, Campus No. 805 is a new hot spot in Huntsville for those looking for good food and fun events your whole family or group can enjoy.

If you’re heading to a concert at Campus No. 805, enjoying time with friends, or simply looking for a great slice of pizza, don’t miss out on Earth and Stone. You can expect quality, fresh ingredients, and a perfect bite with every slice.
