Huntsville Country Club History

Until 1925, the only place to play golf in Huntsville, AL, was a nine-hole, sand-green course provided by the Dallas Manufacturing Company, known as “The Country Club” at Oakwood Avenue and Andrew Jackson Way. In early 1925, fifteen founders sought to organize a new country club, securing the Milton Moss property with the help of a professional promoter. By November, 210 Charter Members had joined Huntsville Country Club. After a fire in 1933, a new clubhouse was built in 1949, followed by the construction of an eighteen-hole course designed by Robert Bruce Harris, with play beginning in 1959. By 1978, the club needed a modern clubhouse, and in 1990, a $1.25 million golf course renovation led by architect John Lafoy transformed the greens and facilities. Now under new ownership, Huntsville Country Club continues to grow, offering premier amenities while preserving its Southern Hospitality, inviting you to be part of its 90-year tradition and future.

RTJ Golf Trail at Hampton Cove

RTJ Golf Trail at Hampton Cove features a 54-hole facility with terrain that drastically changes from one side of the property to the other. The Highlands Course is one of the Trail’s most picturesque and playable courses, with long, waving grasses framing dramatically rolling terrain and beautiful bent grass greens. In contrast, the River Course is the only Robert Trent Jones layout in the world designed without a single bunker, featuring a traditional design where dirt was pushed up to create the greens and tees, leaving massive oak trees as is. The Short Course is open and links-like, with water in play on 11 holes, making it a great venue for golfers of all skill levels. Hampton Cove also boasts one of the Trail’s most recognizable landmarks, the old mule barn beside the fifth hole on the Highlands Course, with scenic and challenging finishing holes. The River Course, laid out on former soybean fields in the floodplain of the Flint River, features water on 16 of the 18 holes, challenging your shot-making ability.
