South Huntsville residents have a new way to explore the outdoors.
According to online reports, the City of Huntsville has completed a continuous 14.7-mile greenway loop following the opening of a new section of the Tennessee River Greenway.
New greenway section completes the loop
City leaders celebrated the milestone with a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the 1.5-mile Tennessee River Greenway extension, which stretches from Redstone Road to Green Cove Road.
According to online reports, construction on the extension began in September 2025. The new segment completes a continuous loop that connects several existing greenway sections throughout south Huntsville.
Connecting parks, trails, and the Tennessee River
The completed loop includes portions of the Aldridge Creek Greenway and provides access to destinations such as Ditto Landing and the Tennessee River.
According to online reports, the expanded trail network offers opportunities for walking, running, cycling, and enjoying nature while creating stronger connections between recreational areas across south Huntsville.
Supporting recreation and quality of life
City officials say the completed loop represents another investment in Huntsville’s growing park and trail system. The project is designed to encourage outdoor recreation while providing residents and visitors with additional opportunities to stay active and enjoy the city’s natural spaces.
With the latest addition now open, Huntsville continues expanding its network of greenways, giving the community more places to exercise, explore, and connect with nature.
