Huntsville residents can share their experiences with the Huntsville Police Department as the agency undergoes its latest reaccreditation review.
Residents can submit feedback to CALEA
The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, or CALEA, is accepting public comments as part of its evaluation of HPD.
Residents can use CALEA’s online public comment portal to provide feedback about the department’s public safety services, community engagement, professionalism and overall performance.
Comments can include both positive experiences and concerns. CALEA will consider the feedback as part of its independent review.
HPD has maintained accreditation for 30 years
Huntsville Police Department first received CALEA accreditation in 1996 and has remained accredited since then.
The accreditation program evaluates law enforcement agencies against nationally recognized standards covering areas such as policies, training, operations and service delivery.
The current reaccreditation process will provide an outside review of HPD’s policies and practices to determine whether the department continues to meet those standards.
Community input is part of the review
The public comment process gives Huntsville residents a direct way to share their experiences with the department during the reaccreditation process.
Residents can submit comments through CALEA’s online public comment portal as the review moves forward.
