Huntsville Supernovas show fight despite loss to Nashville Rugby Team

Huntsville Rugby Club’s women’s team, the Supernovas, fell 75-19 to Nashville’s Villains in a Halloween-themed friendly match on Saturday, Nov. 1, with both teams trading traditional uniforms for costumes.

The high-scoring matchup in Nashville featured a strong opening performance from the home team before Huntsville mounted a second-half comeback attempt led by Jen Larson and Drew Graham.

Nashville builds early lead against Huntsville

The Villains took an early 5-0 lead after capitalizing on a Huntsville turnover. Nashville continued to find scoring opportunities through structured plays and gaps in the defense, extending its advantage to 31-0 by halftime.

Despite a defensive effort from the Supernovas, Nashville maintained control through the first half, using strong runs and possession to build its lead.

Larson and Graham lead Huntsville’s second-half response

Huntsville came out stronger after the break, with Jen Larson scoring the team’s first try and converting it to make the score 31-7.

Drew Graham followed with a breakaway try after collecting the kickoff inside Huntsville’s 22-meter area. Larson converted again, bringing the Supernovas within 17 points at 31-14.

However, injuries left Huntsville with a depleted bench, allowing Nashville to regain momentum. The Villains scored six more tries, converting three of them, to extend their lead.

Supernovas finish with another late try

Huntsville continued competing despite running out of substitutes. Near the final whistle, Larson delivered a well-placed kick that Graham collected for her second try of the match.

Larson’s final conversion attempt was unsuccessful, leaving the final score at 75-19 in Nashville’s favor.

The Halloween matchup was a friendly contest between the two women’s sides, with Huntsville’s Supernovas representing the Heroes against Nashville’s Villains.
