Kilwins

Iconic sweet shop expanding to Downtown Huntsville

Kilwins, a nationally recognized sweets and dessert shop known for its handcrafted chocolates, fudge and ice cream, is coming to downtown Huntsville with its first local store expected to open next year.

The shop will be located at Eclipse, a mixed-use development by RCP Companies and Spring Bay within CityCentre at Big Spring. The Huntsville location will be operated by Scott and Wendy Newby, who already own and operate a Kilwins franchise in Guntersville.

Kilwins brings handcrafted chocolates, fudge and ice cream to Huntsville

With nearly 80 years of history and almost 200 locations nationwide, Kilwins is known for its selection of handcrafted confections. Its offerings include chocolates, Mackinac Island Fudge, caramel apples, brittles and super-premium ice cream.

The company emphasizes an in-store experience where customers can see and smell confections being made while exploring its selection of sweets.

Wendy Newby said Huntsville felt like a natural next step for the franchise, pointing to downtown’s activity and the opportunity to introduce the brand to more North Alabama residents and visitors.

Existing Guntersville franchisees to operate the new store

Scott and Wendy Newby will bring their experience operating the Guntersville location to the Huntsville market. The expansion follows Kilwins’ strategy of growing through established franchisees while introducing the brand to new communities.

Kilwins President and CEO Brian Britton said the company continues to prioritize locations and franchise partners that can help bring its retail experience to more communities across the country.

Downtown Huntsville location planned for next year

Kilwins will open at Eclipse, near Big Spring International Park, the Von Braun Center and the Huntsville Hospital Medical District. The Von Braun Center hosts more than 500 events annually, placing the development near one of downtown’s active destinations.

RCP Companies Senior Director of Development Nadia Niakossary said the addition of Kilwins brings a nationally recognized brand and an established North Alabama operator to the development.

The Huntsville store is expected to open in 2027. An exact opening date has not yet been announced.
