Dreamland BBQ’s Huntsville restaurant shuts down

Dreamland BBQ has closed its University Drive restaurant in Huntsville, ending the location’s run while other restaurants in Alabama and Georgia remain open.

Huntsville restaurant has closed

The University Drive location is no longer operating, and the building’s windows have been covered. There is currently no signage at the property explaining the closure.

The restaurant has also been removed from Dreamland BBQ’s location listings. The company has not publicly announced a reason for the Huntsville closure.

Dreamland BBQ has Alabama roots

Dreamland BBQ traces its beginnings to Tuscaloosa, where founder John “Big Daddy” Bishop opened the original restaurant in 1958.

The barbecue chain became known for its hickory-cooked ribs, white bread and vinegar-based sauce before expanding to additional locations across the Southeast.

Other locations remain open

While the Huntsville restaurant has closed, Dreamland BBQ continues to operate several locations throughout Alabama, including restaurants in Montgomery, Mobile and Tuscaloosa. The company also lists a location in Roswell, Georgia.

For Huntsville barbecue fans, the University Drive closure marks the departure of another longtime restaurant from the local dining scene, with no reopening or replacement plans announced at this time.
