Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle has proposed a more than $360 million Fiscal 2027 budget, with funding aimed at roads, transportation, parks, public safety and other city improvements.
Major road and transportation projects
The proposed budget includes $17.5 million for new road improvement projects. Planned work includes County Line Road and Edinburg Drive Resolute Way, along with design work for the next phase of the Northern Bypass east of Memorial Parkway.
Another $15 million would support multimodal transportation projects, including new greenways and sidewalks. The city also plans to continue expanding its greenway network.
More than $22.3 million is proposed for road resurfacing and maintenance across Huntsville.
Investments in key areas across the city
The budget also sets aside $18 million for reinvestment corridors near Research Park, Mill Creek and downtown Huntsville.
Several parks would receive improvements or expansions, while the city would continue work on commercial redevelopment along Memorial Parkway.
The multi-year capital plan also includes funding for a new police precinct, multiple fire stations and library facilities.
More funding for public safety and city employees
Public safety is another major focus of the proposed spending plan. The budget would authorize 18 additional public safety positions as the city continues expanding its services.
The plan also includes a 2% cost-of-living adjustment for city employees.
The Huntsville City Council is scheduled to discuss the proposal during a work session on Sept. 18 at 11 a.m. The council is expected to vote on the Fiscal 2027 budget during its regular meeting on Sept. 24 at 5:30 p.m.
