Huntsville made a world-record attempt count for something bigger after a local barbecue restaurant served thousands of baked potatoes to support foster children.
5,099 potatoes served in five hours
According to online reports, LawLers Barbecue teamed up with the Orion Amphitheater for Potatoes With Purpose on August 16.
The event challenged the team to serve the most baked potatoes in an eight-hour period. They reached the goal in just five hours, serving 5,099 free potatoes to attendees.
The previous record stood at roughly 3,600 potatoes served within eight hours. Huntsville’s total easily surpassed that mark.
Event raises more than $20,000
The record was only part of the event’s goal. Potatoes With Purpose also raised $20,836 for Kids to Love, a North Alabama nonprofit that supports children in foster care.
The fundraiser brought together local businesses, sponsors, volunteers and community members. LawLers employees also donated their time to help prepare and serve the potatoes throughout the event.

The event highlighted how a fun community gathering can support an important local cause.
LawLers Barbecue President Scott Black thanked the volunteers, Kids to Love team, Orion Amphitheater staff, sponsors and the 106 LawLers team members who helped make the event possible.
The record-breaking total gave Huntsville another reason to celebrate while directing thousands of dollars toward children in foster care across North Alabama.
