Huntsville Hospital Health System has started construction on a $30 million freestanding emergency department in north Huntsville, a project expected to expand access to emergency care for residents across the growing area.
New ER planned for north Huntsville
City and hospital officials held a groundbreaking ceremony Oct. 21 for the facility at 10121 Memorial Parkway NW, near Bob Wade Lane and the Northern Bypass.
The emergency department is designed to serve north Huntsville and nearby Madison County communities, including Meridianville and Hazel Green. Hospital leaders estimate the facility will serve approximately 40,000 people each year.
The project represents the largest healthcare investment in north Huntsville to date, according to hospital officials.
24-hour emergency care and diagnostic services
The new facility will operate around the clock with board-certified physicians. Plans include six emergency beds, CT and ultrasound imaging, laboratory services and a helipad for patient transport.
Patients who need hospital admission or specialized treatment will be transferred to an appropriate hospital for continued care.
Hospital and city leaders also expect the facility to help ease demand at the main Huntsville Hospital campus in the city’s Medical District, while bringing emergency services closer to residents in the northern corridor.
Opening expected in December 2027
The project is part of Huntsville Hospital Health System’s broader effort to expand healthcare access across North Alabama. The system opened an urgent care clinic in north Huntsville in June 2026 and opened a freestanding emergency department in the Harvest community in 2024.
Additional facilities are planned for Hampton Cove, with an opening scheduled for Nov. 4, and Madison. The north Huntsville emergency department is expected to open in December 2027.
