North Alabama receives $15M for roads, airport, and workforce projects

North Alabama will receive $15 million in Community Project Funding as part of the FY26 Consolidated Appropriations Act, signed into law by President Trump. This investment focuses on transportation, infrastructure, and workforce development to support the region’s rapid growth and economic development.

Targeted Infrastructure Improvements

The $15 million package includes:

$5.5M for Capshaw Road: Additional lanes from Old Monrovia Road to Jeff Road to relieve congestion and improve safety.

$3.5M for Slaughter Road: Expanded lanes to address heavy commuter traffic and safety challenges.

$3M for Tennessee River capacity study: Feasibility study to support a future bridge replacement and improve traffic flow in Decatur.

$2M for Huntsville International Airport West Aviation Center: Enhancing aviation infrastructure and solidifying North Alabama as a hub for defense, aerospace, and advanced manufacturing.

$1M for Athens State University Workforce Development Center: Upgrades to train students and mid-career workers for high-demand local jobs.

Supporting North Alabama’s Growth

Congressman Dale Strong emphasized that these investments are vital as more families and businesses choose North Alabama. “These projects will ensure our region can continue to grow and lead,” Strong said, highlighting improvements in public safety, commute efficiency, and workforce readiness.

Total FY26 Funding for Alabama’s Fifth District

With this latest allocation, total FY26 community project funding secured by Congressman Strong exceeds $33 million, supporting projects including:

Water infrastructure upgrades in Ardmore, Triana, and Rogersville

Police and public safety equipment modernization in Priceville, Hartselle, and Somerville

Advanced research facilities at UAH and Auburn University in Huntsville

These investments reinforce North Alabama’s position as a strategic economic hub, while addressing transportation, safety, and workforce development needs
