Columbia High School finally has another win, ending the nation’s longest active losing streak with a dominant 41-14 victory over Greensboro High School.
Eagles snap 101-game skid
According to online reports, Columbia entered Saturday’s game at Milton Frank Stadium with 101 straight losses.
The Eagles last won a game on October 16, 2015, when they defeated Ardmore 34-16. More than a decade later, Columbia finally returned to the win column.
Greensboro took an early lead, but Columbia quickly changed the momentum. The Eagles held a 20-14 advantage at halftime before adding 21 more points in the second half.
Christian Richey leads the way
Senior running back Christian Richey played a major role in the historic win.
Richey transferred to Columbia earlier this year and scored three touchdowns in the first half. His performance helped the Eagles build their lead and maintain control after halftime.
After the final whistle, Richey reflected on the significance of the victory and the work that went into reaching the moment.
Coach Sammie Coates looks ahead
Head coach Sammie Coates took over the Columbia program in January 2025. The victory came during his second season with the Eagles.
After the game, Coates credited his players and the people who supported the program through the difficult stretch.
“It’s over with. We got all of that noise out the way. Now, it’s time to focus on what we came here to do this year, that’s win multiple games.”
Coates also thanked the school administration, community and players for continuing to support the program.
Now, Columbia will look to build on its historic victory. The Eagles return to action August 28, when they host East Limestone.
