Huntsville has approved the annexation of nearly 537 acres near Gurley, setting the stage for a major new residential development in eastern Madison County.
Cleary Farm joins Huntsville
According to online reports, the Huntsville City Council approved the annexation of 536.8 acres known as Cleary Farm.
The property sits along the south side of Little Cove Road, just east of U.S. Highway 72. The annexation brings the large tract into Huntsville’s jurisdiction and allows developers to move forward with plans for the site.
Up to 500 homes planned
Private developers plan to build between 400 and 500 single-family homes on the property.
The project would create a sizable new residential community near Gurley. It also adds to the development activity taking place across eastern Madison County as the Huntsville area continues to expand.
What the annexation means
The city’s approval clears an important step for the proposed development. However, the annexation itself does not mean all homes will immediately begin construction.
Next, developers will need to move through the applicable planning and development processes before construction can advance.
For residents near Gurley and along the Little Cove Road corridor, the project could bring significant changes as the 536.8-acre property transitions toward residential use.
