According to published reports, Charles Anderson, a longtime supporter of the University of North Alabama and prominent Alabama businessman, has died at the age of 91.
UNA Honors a Generous Supporter
Anderson graduated from the University of North Alabama in 1956 and remained one of the school’s strongest advocates throughout his life. He passed away on June 24.
His philanthropy helped establish the Anderson College of Nursing and Health Professions. In addition, his gifts supported the Hilda B. Anderson Softball Complex. University leaders said his generosity will benefit students for generations.
Meanwhile, UNA shared its condolences with the Anderson family. The university also praised Anderson for his lasting commitment to education and the local community.
Business Career Left a Lasting Mark
Beyond his charitable work, Anderson helped grow several well-known Alabama businesses. He guided the expansion of Anderson Media, Anderson Press, Books-A-Million, and TNT Fireworks into successful enterprises.
The Florence native graduated from Coffee High School before earning a marketing degree from Florence State Teachers College, now known as the University of North Alabama.
Throughout his career, Anderson balanced business success with community service. As a result, he became one of North Alabama’s most respected business leaders.
Remembering Anderson’s Legacy
Anderson was preceded in death by his wife, Hilda Barbour Anderson. Together, they raised four sons and built a growing family that includes numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
His obituary described him as a man of humility and wisdom. It also highlighted the positive impact he had on his family, friends, and community.
Today, many people remember Anderson for his generosity, leadership, and dedication to higher education. His contributions continue to shape the University of North Alabama. Likewise, his business and philanthropic legacy will remain an important part of North Alabama for years to come.
