A fast-casual burrito chain is preparing to expand into Alabama, with Tuscaloosa included in its new growth plans, according to online reports.
Barberitos expands into Tuscaloosa market
Barberitos is planning to enter the Tuscaloosa market as part of a five-location franchise agreement in Alabama. The expansion will also include sites in the Birmingham area.
In addition, the company confirmed it has partnered with franchise operator Kevin Gessert to lead development in the region. The move marks Barberitos’ first announced entry into Tuscaloosa.
While exact locations have not yet been confirmed, the company expects new restaurants to open sometime this year.
Fast-casual chain continues Southeast growth
Barberitos was founded in Athens, Georgia and focuses on customizable Mexican-inspired food. The menu includes burritos, tacos, bowls, quesadillas, and salads.
Furthermore, the brand currently operates about 45 locations across the Southeast. Alabama already includes restaurants in cities such as Prattville and Wetumpka.
Company representatives say the expansion reflects continued demand for fast-casual dining options in growing markets.
Franchise partner aims to expand brand reach
Franchise partner Kevin Gessert said he was first introduced to Barberitos while attending the University of Georgia. He noted strong interest in bringing the brand to new communities.
In addition, he said Birmingham and surrounding areas offer strong potential for growth due to local demand for quality fast-casual dining.
Finally, more details on specific store openings are expected as development plans move forward.
