A summer safety measure is returning to public housing communities in Huntsville, according to online reports.
Huntsville Housing Authority Reinstates Summer Curfew
The Huntsville Housing Authority has reinstated a seasonal curfew across its properties, following feedback from residents who participated in last year’s program.
The curfew will take effect in July and continue through September. Under the policy, residents must remain indoors from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. on weekdays and from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. on weekends. Exceptions will be allowed for work, emergencies, and other approved obligations.
Officials said the goal is to improve safety and maintain a calmer environment across communities. In addition, they emphasized that the policy is intended to support residents rather than create added hardship.
Residents and Officials Point to Safety Goals
Housing officials said the decision was influenced by positive feedback from the 2025 pilot program. As a result, leaders chose to bring back the curfew for another summer season.
Executive Director Antonio McGinnis said the initiative is focused on resident well-being. He also noted that many residents reported a stronger sense of safety and accountability during the previous implementation.
Policy Runs Through Summer Months
The curfew will remain in place throughout the summer period as part of the housing authority’s seasonal safety strategy. Therefore, enforcement will apply consistently across participating communities during the designated hours.
However, officials reiterated that exceptions will be made for legitimate needs such as employment schedules or emergencies. Overall, the policy aims to balance safety concerns with daily life requirements for residents.
