Huntsville has renamed a downtown street and dog park in honor of beloved local musician “Microwave Dave,” according to online reports.
Huntsville Honors ‘Microwave Dave’ With New Street Name
The City of Huntsville officially renamed a section of Cleveland Avenue as “Microwave Dave Way” to recognize the legacy of Dave Gallaher.
The newly renamed section stretches between Meridian Street and Church Street in downtown Huntsville. City officials recently installed new signage marking the change.
Gallaher, widely known as “Microwave Dave,” passed away in February at age 80. He became well known throughout North Alabama as a blues musician, performer, educator, and arts advocate.
Downtown Dog Park Also Receives New Name
In addition to the street dedication, Huntsville officially renamed the Downtown Dog Spot as the “Microwave Dave Dog Spot.”
City leaders said the tributes recognize Gallaher’s lasting impact on Huntsville’s music scene and broader cultural identity.
Over the years, Gallaher performed both as a solo artist and with his band, Microwave Dave and the Nukes. He also mentored musicians and supported arts education throughout the community.
City Leaders Highlight Lasting Community Impact
In a public statement, city officials said Gallaher helped bring people together through music while inspiring generations of local artists.
The Huntsville City Council approved the renaming resolutions as part of an effort to preserve and celebrate his contributions to the city’s cultural landscape.
Visitors can now find the updated signage at both Microwave Dave Way and Microwave Dave Dog Spot downtown.
