Rocket City boxers punch their way to the national Golden Gloves

Huntsville-based Rocket City Boxing is sending two athletes to the National Golden Gloves Championships after strong showings at recent state and regional competitions.

Local boxers earn state titles

Four fighters from Rocket City Boxing competed in the Alabama State Golden Gloves tournament on March 14. Of those, three secured state titles.

Bradley Belt won by third-round knockout, while Lance Holloway and Sydney Houston earned victories by decision. As a result, all three advanced to the Southeastern Regional tournament.

Two fighters qualify for national stage

At the regional competition in Homewood on April 11–12, Belt and Houston each won their divisions. Belt secured a knockout in the semifinals and followed with a unanimous decision in the finals.

Meanwhile, Houston also claimed a unanimous decision victory in the finals. Therefore, both fighters qualified for the National Golden Gloves Championships in Tulsa, scheduled for May 11–15.

Program momentum continues

Rocket City Boxing coach Steve Badgley said the team has had a strong year, highlighting the athletes’ progress and competitive success.

As the national competition approaches, the Huntsville program continues to gain recognition for developing top amateur boxing talent.
