Health inspectors flag issues at Huntsville steakhouse

The Kitchen Cops wrapped up several days of inspections before the Thanksgiving break, and their findings show that a few well-known spots in North Alabama need major attention. While some counties reported clean results, others saw multiple violations ranging from temperature issues to serious sanitation problems.

Counties With Minor or No Issues

The week began smoothly in a few areas. DeKalb County reported no significant issues, offering a contrast to the challenges inspectors uncovered elsewhere. Morgan County also passed its latest round of checks without major concerns. These clean reports serve as a helpful benchmark as we shift to counties with more serious violations.

Notable Violations in Jackson and Limestone Counties

Jackson County saw several locations fall short. At Margarita’s on County Park Road in Scottsboro, inspectors gave a 75 after finding a dead mouse in a glue trap, rodent droppings in storage, chicken at the wrong temperature, no sanitizer in a dishwasher, and dirty soda nozzles.
Meanwhile, Sunshine Food Mart earned an 82 because cheese was held at the wrong temperature and barbecue pork lacked date markings.
Inspectors also cited Jack’s in Stevenson, which received an 83 after workers left a box of bacon sitting on top of a cooler instead of storing it inside.

In Limestone County, The Bomar Inn received an 81, though the inspection report did not list specific violations. Even without details, the score indicates several issues that managers will need to correct quickly.

Madison County Reports the Most Serious Problems

Madison County saw the toughest findings of the week. Logan’s on University Drive received a 72, one of the lowest scores in the region. Inspectors found rotting vegetables in a cooler, both chicken and pork held at unsafe temperatures, and several employees working without the required food safety certifications. They also reported two sinks without soap or hand-drying supplies and several damaged cooking tools that needed to be discarded.

Inspectors cited The Parkway Inn on North Parkway for an unlabeled chemical spray bottle left on a cleaning cart, resulting in an 83. Although the violation was limited, the score signals that staff still need to tighten their safety procedures.
