The City of Huntsville has officially accepted a $50 million Choice Neighborhood Implementation (CNI) Grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for the Mill Creek redevelopment project, announced earlier this year. This grant provides crucial funding for revitalizing the area and building a sustainable, mixed-income community for Huntsville residents.
$350 million investment for mixed-income housing in Huntsville
The Mill Creek project, located west of Memorial Parkway along Governors Drive, is set to receive a total investment of $350 million in collaboration with the Huntsville Housing Authority (HHA). The redevelopment will introduce a mixed-income community offering workforce housing, medical and childcare services, and retail options. This neighborhood vision aligns with Huntsville’s commitment to creating accessible, vibrant communities.
Key partnerships for Huntsville’s Mill Creek Redevelopment Project
As part of the redevelopment efforts, Huntsville has partnered with McCormack Baron Salazar to oversee the construction and management of most of the housing in Mill Creek. Huntsville Hospital is funding a separate 125-unit building exclusively for its employees, enhancing the neighborhood’s focus on workforce housing. This collaboration between the public and private sectors underscores a united vision for sustainable growth in Huntsville.
HHA’s Executive Director, Antonio McGinnis, expressed optimism about the project’s impact: “We’re thrilled about the next steps and the strong partnerships with McCormack Baron Salazar and Urban Strategies,” he said. “This transformative community in the heart of Huntsville is set for success, thanks to these foundational agreements for Mill Creek.”
