Honest Coffee Roasters is a pair of locally owned coffee shops in the Huntsville area, with one being located on Clinton Avenue and one on Shorter Street.
My review is based on the Shorter Street location.
The atmosphere of the coffee shop was very young and hip. The music playing over the speakers was fun and fresh, but not overly distracting to someone who may have visited the coffee shop to work or complete their homework. There were even a few throwbacks to early 2000s Disney Channel while I was visiting.
Honest Coffee had large windows that let in an abundance of natural light and allowed for patrons to look out into the surrounding area.
They even have this fun little quirk where the potted plants have name tags in them, which is a really cute touch.
I visited the Honest Coffee location on Shorter Street, which is right in the middle of The Avenue Madison apartment complexes.
There could not be a better and more convenient location for this coffee shop. Its proximity to the apartments makes it a hot spot for those who live close by, but it is also located in Downtown Madison, making it accessible to many different people.
And now for the main event… the coffee. As someone who is not a major coffee fan, I invited a friend, and together we went to try some of their selections.
To be economical, we tried a warm drink, an iced drink, and a pastry, though we would be happy to try more.
We asked the barista to recommend her favorite warm drink, iced drink, and pastry, and this is what she recommended.
For our warm drink, we tried the brown sugar and cinnamon latte. This latte was very pretty, given to us with a beautiful design on the top. Of the drinks, this one was the more ‘coffee forward’ drink. Though nowhere near being as strong as it could be, it has a strong coffee flavor. This drink was also remarkably true to the flavor profile described. It was a rich, sweet, cinnamon-y drink.
For our cold drink, we tried the sugar cookie latte. The sugar cookie latte was also very pretty. It had red and green sprinkles on the top. This drink is a bit more suited to someone who prefers a sweeter, less ‘coffee’ flavored coffee. It was very creamy and smooth. The latte was very sweet and nice, but it didn’t exactly evoke a sugar cookie flavor, in our opinion.
As someone who isn’t a major coffee drinker, both drinks were tolerable, but the sugar cookie latte was more pleasant.
My coffee fan friend thought that they were both very tasty coffees.
We were actually pleasantly surprised that we wound up with coffees that suit opposite sides of the spectrum for coffee drinkers from opposite sides of the spectrum.
We also tried a blueberry muffin. The blueberry muffin was very nice. It was a sweet muffin, with a layer of caramelized sugar on the top, which gave it a slight crunch.
Overall, I would definitely return to Honest Coffee for another visit, perhaps I’ll go to try one of their meals. The atmosphere is nice, the coffee is good, and the pastries are really tasty. It’s a nice place to go to hang out with friends, get work done, or spend some time on your own.
Honest Coffee Roasters offers a variety of coffee and tea based drinks. The majority of their coffee based drinks are espresso beverages, though they also offer drip coffee (black coffee), iced coffee, and nitro cold brews. Their tea based drinks are a bit more varied, they have matcha and chai teas as well as a variety of teas by another local business, Piper and Leaf.
If you’re looking for something that isn’t coffee or tea, they do have a small refrigerated area that held glass bottled sodas, water bottles, and apple and orange juice (a great option for the kids!).
They also have food options, whether you are just looking for a quick bite to eat, or a meal.
They have a variety of pastries already prepared by local bakeries, or you can order from their ‘Breakfast and Brunch’ or ‘Lunch and Dinner’ menus. The ‘Breakfast and Brunch’ menu has 4 vegan options, but their ‘Lunch and Dinner’ menu only has one vegetarian option.
They also have a variety of different açaí bowls to choose from and a build-your-own bowl option.
Honest Coffee Roasters offers some allergy-friendly options and has a detailed menu. They offer a gluten-free pastry option, prepared by Mason Dixon, and they have dairy-free options. If you have an allergy, I recommend discussing it with the barista before placing your order, as even if a menu item does not contain your allergen, the barista must be aware of it to prevent cross-contamination.
The porch area outside of the shop is dog-friendly, but the inside of the shop is not. Remember to bring a friend to hang out with your four-legged friend while you order your coffee.
