Huntsville has officially opened the new John Hunt Park Recreation Center, adding a major sports and recreation destination to the city, according to online reports.
New Recreation Center Opens at John Hunt Park
City leaders recently celebrated the grand opening of the John Hunt Park Recreation Center with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The $18 million facility sits within the city’s sprawling John Hunt Park complex and expands recreational opportunities for residents of all ages.
Officials say the new center strengthens Huntsville’s position as a regional destination for sports, fitness, and community events.
Pickleball Takes Center Stage
One of the facility’s biggest attractions is its pickleball complex. The site features 24 competitive-play courts and one elite-level court, all covered and equipped with lighting. As a result, players can enjoy the sport throughout the day and into the evening.
The recreation center also includes much more than pickleball. Inside, visitors will find a gymnasium that can accommodate four high school basketball courts or eight volleyball courts. In addition, the building offers a fitness room, multipurpose spaces, office areas, and concessions.
Huntsville Continues Investing in Recreation
Parks and Recreation officials say the facility will support both everyday activities and large regional tournaments. Therefore, the center is expected to attract athletes, families, and visitors from across the Southeast.
The opening marks Huntsville’s second new recreation center in recent months. The city opened the West Huntsville Recreation Center in late 2025 and is also planning renovations to the Dr. Richard Showers Sr. Recreation Center.
Meanwhile, city leaders say these investments reflect Huntsville’s ongoing commitment to expanding quality-of-life amenities as the community continues to grow.
