Fire & Rescue honors lifesaving rescues, 20 promotions at annual ceremony

Huntsville Fire & Rescue honored dozens of firefighters and celebrated 20 promotions during its annual Awards & Promotions Ceremony.

Heroic Rescues Recognized

The department recognized 39 personnel for bravery and life-saving efforts across seven major incidents. Several rescues involved young children, including a 20-day-old infant and a 3-year-old in cardiac arrest. In both cases, firefighters performed CPR and other critical interventions that led to the children’s survival.

Crews also saved a mother and child from a second-floor apartment fire, rescued trapped residents from structure fires, and provided emergency care at severe crash scenes. In one incident, a firefighter stopped to help victims of a multi-vehicle crash and suffered serious injuries after being struck by another vehicle.

The department presented honors including the Medical Life Saver Award, Fire Life Saver Award, Medal of Commendation and Medal of Valor to recognize exceptional courage, teamwork and professionalism.

In addition to award recipients, HFR promoted 20 members to new leadership roles.
