BBB North Alabama launches free spring shred days

The Better Business Bureau of North Alabama is launching its 2026 Spring Shred Days, offering residents free document shredding and electronic recycling events across the region, according to online reports.

Free Shredding Events Planned Across North Alabama

The Better Business Bureau of North Alabama will host four free shred events in April and May in partnership with Family Security Credit Union and Gone For Good.

The events are designed to help residents securely dispose of sensitive documents and reduce the risk of identity theft. Organizers say the program offers a simple, preventive step for households managing outdated financial and personal records.

Event Schedule Covers Four Cities

The first event will take place Friday, April 10 at Florence-Lauderdale Coliseum from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The Huntsville stop is scheduled for Friday, April 17 at John Hunt Park. Additional events will follow in Decatur on May 1 and Cullman on May 2.

In addition to paper shredding, select locations will offer electronic recycling and limited drug take-back services. However, restrictions apply based on weight and item type.

Focus on Identity Theft Prevention

BBB North Alabama leaders say the program plays a key role in fraud prevention efforts across the region. They emphasize that securely destroying outdated documents helps protect families from identity theft risks.

Karen Reeves, president and CEO, said Shred Days remain one of the organization’s most practical consumer protection services. As a result, the initiative continues to draw strong participation each year.
