Kay Ivey announced that Alabama has received national recognition for major economic and community investments, including a large-scale project in Huntsville, according to online reports.
Alabama Earns National CiCi Awards
Three projects in Alabama were named winners of the 2026 Corporate Investment/Community Impact (CiCi) Awards by Trade & Industry Development. These awards highlight projects that contribute significantly to local economies and community development.
The recognition places Alabama among top-performing states nationally, reflecting continued growth in investment and development across the region.
Huntsville Project Among Recognized Investments
One of the highlighted projects is a major pharmaceutical manufacturing facility by Eli Lilly and Company in Huntsville.
The $6 billion facility will be located in the Greenbrier South area and is expected to create thousands of construction jobs along with several hundred permanent positions. In addition, the project represents one of the largest investments in Alabama’s history.
Economic and Workforce Impact
The Huntsville facility will focus on advanced pharmaceutical production, including small-molecule and peptide-based medicines. As a result, it is expected to strengthen the region’s biotechnology sector.
The project also benefits from proximity to research and workforce development hubs such as HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology. Therefore, it is positioned to support both innovation and long-term economic growth in North Alabama.
Broader Statewide Recognition
Alongside the Huntsville project, other Alabama developments were recognized for their impact, including investments in rural manufacturing. Together, these projects reflect a broader trend of economic expansion across the state.
State officials said the recognition underscores Alabama’s ability to attract major companies and support large-scale developments. As a result, the state continues to build momentum as a destination for business investment and job creation.
