Huntsville Fire & Rescue is now accepting applications for its 2026 firefighter class, giving those interested in a career in public safety a chance to join the department.
Applications open through October 22
Applications opened Sept. 12 and will remain available through Thursday, Oct. 22. Those interested can apply through the department’s recruitment website.
Applicants must also schedule an orientation for the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) after submitting their application. The CPAT orientation sessions are scheduled for Nov. 3-5.
Applicants can attend upcoming open houses
Huntsville Fire & Rescue will host two open houses for people interested in learning more about the firefighter position and meeting department leadership.
The first will take place Oct. 1 from 6-8 p.m. at Station 1, 2110 Clinton Ave. W. A second open house is scheduled for Oct. 10 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Huntsville Public Safety Training Academy, 5365 SW Triana Blvd.
The events offer prospective applicants an opportunity to learn more about the department and its expectations before moving through the selection process.
Written exam preparation begins in October
HFR will also offer study sessions ahead of the written examination, which is scheduled for Nov. 17-19.
Study sessions will take place at the Public Safety Training Academy at 10 a.m. on Oct. 31, Nov. 7 and Nov. 14.
The department says the selection process is demanding and is looking for applicants who are prepared for the physical and mental challenges of the job.
Applications for Cadet Class 61 are open through Oct. 22.
