The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) has officially renamed its College of Education to the College of Education, Sport, and Human Sciences, reflecting over a decade of steady growth and a broader academic mission. UAH is part of The University of Alabama System.
A Decade of Growth
First announced in February, the name change marks a significant evolution since the college’s founding in 2014. Initially offering just two undergraduate degrees, the college now features a wider array of programs, including sport and fitness management and child, family, and community development.
Expanding Programs and Career Paths
In recent years, UAH has added advanced graduate degrees in applied behavior analysis and instructional leadership. These new offerings aim to prepare students for leadership roles in education, wellness, and community-focused fields. The college’s updated name reflects both its academic diversity and its growing impact on students who go on to serve in schools, healthcare, nonprofits, and other sectors.
Purpose at the Center
College leadership says the changes reflect more than just academic expansion—they represent a continued focus on purpose-driven education. Faculty and staff remain committed to helping individuals and communities thrive through teaching, research, and service. The renaming signals UAH’s intention to support careers that reach beyond the classroom, preparing students to contribute in dynamic, interdisciplinary environments across Alabama and beyond.
