Huntsville Hospital has started a $150 million vertical expansion at its Madison Street Tower to increase capacity and improve patient care.
The project will add over 100 new beds and convert many double-occupancy rooms into private spaces for greater comfort and accessibility.

The five-story, 154,000-square-foot expansion will introduce 120 beds, including specialized units for cardiothoracic and neurosurgical care. A new neuro intensive care unit will support stroke patients. Three floors will provide acute medical care, while the emergency department vehicle entrance will receive an upgrade for better access.
The hospital will also convert 70 existing double-occupancy rooms into private rooms, increasing total capacity from 881 to 931 beds.
Construction Timeline and Contractor
Robins & Morton, the firm that built the Madison Street Tower in 2006, is leading the project. The hospital expects construction to finish in 2027.
Temporary ER Entrance Changes
ER visitors should now enter from Gallatin Street. St. Clair Avenue, between Madison and Gallatin streets, is closed to through traffic. The hospital has placed directional signs throughout the medical district to guide visitors. These changes will remain in effect until construction is complete.
