Since I have reviewed several coffee shops, I have come up with somewhat of a formula that I feel gives all the shops that I review the best chance.
When I go to review coffees, I simply ask the barista to recommend their favorite hot, cold, or tea from the menu. On occasion, I will also get a pastry to go alongside my coffee, though we skipped that this time. Then, a few friends and I will all taste the drinks, and we will come up with a collective review.
This time, our barista recommended the cookie butter latte, the iced cloudburst, and the chai latte.
Cookie Butter Latte
The barista prepared us a cookie butter latte with whole milk as a hot drink. As a non-coffee drinker, this was my favorite of the three. It was rich and creamy, with a really comforting feeling. The drink, though not necessarily cookie flavored, was very pleasant. The sweet flavors paired well with the coffee flavors, but didn’t overshadow them, as the coffee flavor contrasted beautifully with the sweet cookie butter flavor.
One odd thing that we did find about this drink is that the cookie butter syrup tends to settle, as the drink was almost a completely different drink when we got to the last few sips, where the cookie butter was far more concentrated. It gave graham cracker flavor to the drink.
Iced Cloudburst Latte
The iced cloudburst was my coffee loving friend’s favorite drink from this shop by a landslide. She really enjoyed this drink. This drink is a bit more coffee forward than the cookie butter latte, and the bergamot gave the drink slightly citrus-y notes that made it very unique.
The coffee was sweet, but the bitterness of the coffee came through more strongly than it did in the other latte. It was a very refreshing iced drink.
Chai Latte
We also enjoyed a chai latte during our visit. The chai latte was enjoyable, with a very strong cinnamon and cardamom presence, that gave it a very fall feel. The cardamom gave it floral notes, and the cinnamon made it warm and inviting. The honey and vanilla gave the drink a sweetness, but took a bit of a back seat to the other two flavors. We all agreed that the drink was a bit reminiscent of a warm fall cider.
Gold Sprint Atmosphere
Gold Sprint Coffee certainly had a unique aesthetic. It was decorated with sports trophies, taxidermy, and lots of greenery. The shop itself had a large trophy case with sports trophies that dated back several decades, as well as several taxidermied critters (and some skulls and other animal bones).
The front of the shop featured the expected tables, as well as a few options for comfortable seating, like benches and couches. There were also a pair of bikes hanging in the front of the shop, reflecting the bike in the company’s logo. The eclectic style seems unusual when you read it, but it really does work together and suit the shop well.
Something that makes Gold Sprint stand out from its competition is the fact that the back of the shop has a small stage that acts as a venue for performers of all types. This isn’t something that I have seen in any of the other shops that I have reviewed thus far.
What Could I Do Here?
People commonly visit coffee shops to get work done, and I think that Gold Sprint would be a great place to visit to catch up on school work or complete projects for your job. There is a bit of movement and chatter in this shop, but not so much that I believe that it would be too hard to get any work done. On the contrary, the presence of others working may help you to dial in to what you need to get done.
Another reason people tend to meet in coffee shops is to spend time with others. Could you go on a coffee shop date here? Yes. Is it the most romantic atmosphere? No. This shop is a great place to meet up to catch up with friends, but maybe not the best place for a first date.
